We champion work & life skills training for people living with a learning disability.
We support therapeutic pathways for improved mental health and well-being for the wider community - people of all ages and offer dementia friendly spaces within our grounds.

Funders
In 2015 Edith Elm Special School Trust awarded a fund which began the set-up of 'Sailship CIC'.
Awards4All Lottery Funding 2015 also helped towards the set-up fee of the project.
Social Impact Fund ACT funded Sailship in 2015 which allowed the purchase of 2 Caravans (for classroom use) and the first Polytunnel.
In 2016 Comic Relief funded the creation of the Kitchen Enterprise.
In 2017, Anglian Community Trust funded Sailship for a second time. This allowed the infrastructure of pathways/decked areas around the site.
Colchester Catalysts funded Sailship in 2017 to develop the Sensory Garden known as 'Ellie's Garden' (named after the first therapy dog Elliephant).
In 2017 The Tudor Trust funded the CEO salary for 3 years.
This funding also allowed Sailship to convert from 'Sailship CIC' (Community Interest Company) to a registered charity 'Sailship Training & Learning for Life' (reg no: 1174081).
In 2018 Sailship received funding from Essex Millennium Fund and Colne Community Builders. This afforded the opportunity to pilot the Sailship Community Outreach Programme which is now fully established.
In 2020 Sailship began it's second Outreach Programme due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Sailship provided Green Care Packs to vulnerable members of the public during lockdown.
