Welcome to Sailship Training & Learning for Life, a transformative charity based in Clacton-on-Sea, championing health and wellbeing across all ages. Through therapeutic gardening, inclusive life skills training, and dementia-friendly environments, Sailship provides person-centred pathways for mental health recovery, personal growth, and social connection. With a focus on individuals with learning disabilities and the wider community, Sailship empowers participants to heal, flourish, and lead purposeful lives - growing a friendship between people, place, and possibility.

In September 2013 Liz Barritt began developing the Sailship project.
Following an EU funded programme, working with a wonderful business mentor, Keith Powell of COLBEA, in Colchester and a generous grant of £5,000 from EESST (Edith Elms Special School Trust), Sailship was born.

Liz needed to find a site for the project and after searching for what seemed like an endless time, she happened upon land owned by the Rush Green Allotment Trust (RGAT). The land required extensive clearance and believe it or not, the photos opposite demonstrate AFTER…not before!

By Feb 2016, Liz had bid for and been awarded further funding amounting to £41,000 which enabled the project to move forward in a more tangible way that meant the vision could now become a reality.
